The first person to acknowledge my motherhood was my 18 year old boyfriend. The daughter I had conceived, birthed and placed years before meeting him was never far from my mind but few people in my life gave me the opportunity to celebrate or grieve that part of my soul.
This wild haired 18 year old boyfriend celebrated me the first Mother’s Day we were together. He brought me flowers and one of those obnoxiously huge cards with the words HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY scrawled across the front. On the inside he wrote a note in which he held space for my loss while encouraging my future, “You’re going to be a great mother,” he said.
That one gesture meant more to me than I can properly articulate…I married that boy by the way and his steadfast love has never waned.
Bearing in mind how much his card meant to me all those years ago I’ve decided to create a few beautiful Mother’s Day card designs for the birthmoms in your life.
